maximize player inventory management torture

keep the item grid system but also make it weight based so even if the slots fit on the grid the weight might not let you carry it

this will not lead to fun gameplay, just pure pain and insanity, and thus i think it should be implemented asap

A weight based system would just raise their capacity over max, force them to drop it to be able to pick shit up again but cant pick it back up until they clear up their space
To be fair you don't know that for certain unless you've used and tested the plugin shown in the video

Just because it worked like that in clockwork, there's no guarantee it would work the same way in helix since I imagine the coding is different on that front. There's diff quirks to the frameworks

You'd be lucky not to run into some kind of snag in this area regardless of the system. The clockwork inventory was jank to the point where one inventory having too many items caused a crash at one point in time.

The grid system stopped people carrying around entire armouries on their person so job well done if you ask me.

i'd much rather have the """"dysfunctional"""" weight system return over the DYSFUNCTIONAL grid system

no matter what people's gripes with it were, it isn't as bad as having to play tetris without being able to do any of the rotating every time you even THINK of picking up something

weight is OBJECTIVELY superior to this, I don't know why you are defending grid when it is ass in comparison
evil you forget, rabid MUST defend whatever is currently on the server and will fight against any change until it happens and then he will support it

the only thing i'd miss is stuff staying in backpacks when you drop them, was always one of my favourite features of helix for whatever reason

went even harder with body looting mechanics on other servers, pillaging scombine corpses for all their ammo and shit was very satisfying

We can still do that by upping the KiloGrams of the guns themselves, or reducing the storage utility capacity, or not giving suits additional storage, etc

As opposed to the many people over the years who argued for shit to be changed "just because"

Honestly the ideal inventory system is likely a mix of both, it really depends what you're after though. The grid based thing was completely fine and suitable for the City RP setting.

If I had a quid for every person in this community who instantly denied they'd ever supported a suggestion when they were proven wrong down the line I'd be fucking rich lol

Give me some credit, I didn't spend two years fighting to stop RebelRP's economy being given the people known for making monopolies despite pushback for no reason.

If anything, it really didn't. With the average amount of storage items I could probably walk around with 6 MP7's just fine.

It stopped people from carrying bulky rifles in storage and they just left them equipped.

The clockwork inventory was jank to the point where one inventory having too many items caused a crash at one point in time.
That only happened because the person had a very special customized storage item, though?

Regular players were lucky to get two belts, let alone an admin backpack.

Nah tbf your average Blacksuit could comfortably carry around several guns, multiple suits and all the ammo they'd ever need for firefights on CW.

It was really only the Greenbeans who actually had any real handicap.

With the average amount of storage items (2 traveling backpacks, 2 pouches) I can carry 4 spare rifles and enough ammunition to kill several enemies and medkits to patch myself up thrice.

Expand it to @deathwolf's level and you can fit in 8 - 10 guns, ammunition, medical items and a custom suit.

e: on clockwork unless you owned an admin backpack you had hard luck picking up that much shit

Yeah but to be fair that was also when travelling bpacks had become a lot more common, the server had been up for quite a while at that point

Also after several QOL changes after community feedback (increasing storage across the board for example)

I think you might be misremembering a little tbh. With the way suits stacked with stats and the extra pouches people bought for dirt cheap you could carry absolutely everything you needed even as a basic bitch.

When I first got Jay and @Ond gave me loads of gear to set me up on LP I was carrying about 5-6 guns, ammo for them all, food and water with just a basic suit and a pouch or two. On Jackie I once scooped up every gun from a failed battle event and could walk around fine passing them back out - that was to like 9-10 other rebels, not counting my own gear and stuff.

But I think the difference is that Helix was never designed to let you stack like that but people found a way over time. On CW it was so common that people misremember how severe it actually was lmao.
