I remember people having fun in the first few days, then it fell apart towards the end since stuff.

Generations was cobbled together, a full server would of course be more entertaining.

they were having fun because they were doing s2k 99% of the time and messing around

If it was WW1 there would be no regen, hardly any sights for weapons and everyone would be sitting in trenches either dealing with trench foot, shell shock or just general fear.

IT:
CyberpunkRP with sick factions and super drugs n' lazers and shit, could be cool if it got done right

MiamiRP with the set Russian Mafia faction, then civilians who could create gangs, grow drugs, supply and demand, start gang wars, liquidate assets of other gangs - raids and all that shizzle as well as the swat and police trying to intervene and failing - possibly detectives, court trials - maybe mini events set in the Hawaii war from HM2?

WW3 RP is a really good gamemode, a lot of people can vouch for it.
Time passed is not the fault for its death, but the decisions of a couple of people over the course of its run, such as when promotions in Coalition were solely for patrol success, no balance between roleplay and leadership.

or it could be set in late war when great strides in weaponry technology were made and the war turned from a position war to a mobile one

That's why you can modify servers fam

Tons of modded bf4 servers have certain weapons and such disabled and with the shell shock and shit you can rp
