Perhaps you're right, I'll agree. I just don't like them snatching everything up and these companies entering into an exclusivity deal with Epic.

E: I suppose it's their loss to not get onto other platforms or places. But... I suppose the offer outweighs the negatives
PC exclusives are really nothing. If you installed another browser or voip software, you’ve put the same amount of effort in, with console exclusives you have to pay for the console to play those games but with PC exclusives you’re just installing another application.

I meant more so to sell on other platforms like steam/in stores. They can't do that with exclusivity to Epic.

No I know but I’m just saying the difference is so significant. Sure they can’t sell on another platform but you barely interact with the store, you (hopefully) spend more time playing the game than interacting with the store. It’s just a business deal, the relevant companies get an offer and go into talks which leads to accepting a deal; there’s no misleading or ransom going on.

They could at least add more features to their platform, they literally have nothing going other than exclusivity deals and fortnite bucks. They can't go like this forever expecting to become more successful than steam

Fair point.

There’s a roadmap that’s been posted multiple times already. Steam was fucking awful until around 2007.

6+ months is awful lot of time for a shopping cart and achievements

and 4-6 months is a lot for reviews, currencies, mods and payment methods

especially for a company which buys exclusives left and right, without having what's demanded to support them

You missed store search, offline mode, regional pricing and pre-loading.

these are things that should have come with the platform itself, considering how much money they've made

Money doesn't make development infinitely faster. Valve haven't changed Steam significantly for a very long time despite the billions they're making (or released a proper game).

Valve doesn't have that much of a reason to change whatever it is, most of the stuff people would want or need is already there, Epic couldn't even offer support for the games they offered, people had to go to Steam's support if they wanted any kind of help

subnautica being a prime example, rocket league will probably end the same

Steam goes down weekly despite the amount of money they have to fix that problem, the argument "they have enough money to do X" doesn't mean it happens in an impossible timeframe. Development, QA and testing has to be done for these things because if they push out a feature that removes your game files (or worse) then you'll be even more angry at them (cough bethesda cough).

They definitely do because they now have a direct competitor and their fans have been crying out for changes for a significant time. Even ourside of changes to the Steam platform they've been crying out for a new Valve game which they've utterly failed to deliver.

Epic do offer support because I've used it.

I haven't been a huge person on using the epic games store, and I really don't mind waiting for the games that they've put into exclusivity. I do hope Valve kicks back into gear now as this does seem to be a legitimate competitor now, only issue being the tactics Epic has done previously can be seen in poor taste but they did say they're ceasing on the constant exclusivity deals as it is a unsustainable practice in their case.

I'll probably stick to steam unless Epic works some more polishing and refining their UI and store as right now It isn't much imho and steams offer a lot of usability to the person in comparison

Funny that Epic don't agree with lootboxes yet Fortnite gets shit while Apex Legends got praise.
i know the post is old and all but what you just said here is wrong
apex didnt get praise for their lootboxes it got praised because it was a fun game that did a few interesting things with the battleroyale genre, not because it had lootboxes. and neither do they like apex's lootboxes

fortnite just became way too popular way too fast with tons of kids migrating into it and generally flooding the internet with "FORTNITE"
this is the exact reason why apex didnt get the same reclusive treatment like fortnite because the internet was already over-saturated with fortnite that apex seemed like nothing major

your wording was quite odd when you mention lootboxes in the same sentence
Not really, I said Fortnite doesn’t have loot boxes but gets thrown shit daily whilst gamers praise Apex when it has loot boxes. Every game should be shit on for these gambling practises, even the one I play daily.

you do realise that it is absolutely fucking irrelevant whether a game has or doesnt have lootboxes, if the game is unliked due to reason a,b,c then it will stay unliked. i dont like gambling practices anymore than you do but i'm not willing to fling shit all over a game just because of one feature that relies entirely on self-control.

on another note, apex is liked because it has a better appeal to people that arent prepubescent kids while fortnite appeals massively to kids. ofcourse its going to get shit flung at it when its major playerbase is literally children and partly because its annoying to hear about fortnite, a game you dont care about, everywhere you go on the internet
