If your PC is compatible with Nvidia, you can go for an EVGA 1080 GTX or a 1070.

If it's not and only AMD works, you can get an RX 480 (XFX) Of 8 Gigs aswell, althought don't know about performance.

You don't need an 8GB card to run games on max. 4 will do just fine.

Also, a budget would help people suggest cards. no point suggesting 1080's if your budget is £200

I have no budget @Jamie
I'm gonna wish for my birthday (a graphics card)
Then I'm gonna save up cash for a new motherboard, processor, PSU, cooling system & more

(Since my 4 years old motherboard will probably not let me use a brand new processor & graphics card) idk, im bad at computers

You might want to wish for those other parts too. If your current hardware is old, then getting a 1080 isn't going to help, It will just bottleneck your system or your psu won't be able to power a new card like that.

I am aware, hence why I'll just put the 1080 on my shelf and wait until I have the other parts. A 1080 costs like 700 euros, I'll BARERLY get that for my birthday, if im lucky.

Ah alright.

1070 may cost much less, if not. Get a 900 series card. 970 is cheap, 980 or 980 ti's will run your stuff at max.

Try asking for just cash for your birthday, no point buying a 1080 and sticking it on the shelf when it may become cheaper or a better one for the same price comes out by the time you have the cash.

That's true. I'll even state on my birthday wish, "Get money for upgrading computer."
I'm pretty much replacing my entire computer tbh. It's a shitty pre-built with an AMD Radeon R9 200 series something card (2GB, and an AMD FX 6300 six core processor

its got a shitty motherboard too

The computer was fine for like the first 2.5 years but now it's gone to shit
cant run any game on higher than low almost (of the new games) and still 20 FPS

Hence why im getting a Intel i7 Skylake 6700 + Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070/1060/1080 not sure yet+ new PSU+ new motherboard etc whatever else is needed

The reason to get a GPU with high memory is if you play a lot of modded skyrim / fallout with shaders, 4k textures etc.
Even if your motherboard is 4 years old it should still support a modern graphics card, since it probably still uses PCI express slot, you might be unable to upgrade your CPU due to it having an old socket.

If you're getting a new system, just remember: motherboards do not affect your performance, don't waste a lot of money on it, since the 'high-end' motherboard generally just have a lot of extra whistles and bells the average user doesn't use or need. Just make sure it supports your CPU & GPU.

Most games today are GPU intensive, CPU is generally not much of an issue unless you play something like Arma.

I'm getting a 1050 ti for my new desktop but if you're getting the 1070 this doesn't matter. Oh and if you are thinking about the other things like a CPU and stuff, here's what I'm putting in mine if it helps:

Intel core i3-7100U @ 3.9GHz (Dual-Core)
8GB of DDR4 RAM
Micro ATX LGA 1151 Motherboard which fits into a Cougar Solution 2 ATX Mid Tower Case

only get the 1080 if you have a 100+ hz and/or 1440p monitor orelse you're better off with the 1070. ive had both cards but ended up with the 1080 because i upgraded my monitor

the only reason you'd want an 8gb card is to run games at ULTRA texture settings

there is rarely any difference between high and ultra, except the fact that the latter will completely rape your vram into orbit for slightly crispier looking textures

Or because you want a card that lasts more than 2 years
