I know this is a big necro but having looked into how the game is doing - yeah, it's pretty dire and a very far cry from what was happening in 2016.

It did end up getting finally released last year in early access and updated in October but pretty much every review and video I've seen is incredibly negative and several former studio members have come out and said the game is nothing like what they worked on or that the community were promised. Apparently it runs significantly worse in every way now than it did during the kickstarter demo phases.

From what I'm reading and hearing, after the closed Alpha the team said they hadn't gotten the money from kickstarter and they were rebuilding the game from scratch due to messy code. A lot of the team went on to work on another game called VEIN (which is still getting updates regularly) and there's the ongoing theory Dead Matter basically has a skeleton crew behind it.

So yeah, genuinely very sad.
