Mushishi is good but it's not exactly your action oriented stuff, it's more more occult/mystery and is aimed at like, people in their mid-20's so it's certainly not everyones cup of tea, I love it though

Quan-Zhi-Gao-Shou

A more realistic take on something like SAO, yes it's a power fantasy thing but it's fun to watch and doesn't contain tons of fan-service or any incestuous loli nonsense. It's only got a couple of episodes, it's Chinese rather than Japanese but you get used to it. There's no english dub available afaik.
Seems good I'm probably gonna watch it

i've got a few questions
are there fillers
are there near-pornographic scenes
are there awkward moments where characters stare at each other for ten minutes while explaining the plot in their head

Anime is a medium, not a genre itself which means that depending what you prefer to watch will affect your decision and opinion on which show.

If you are a newcomer to Anime, I recommend Reddit /r/anime wiki to chose some shows to watch. If you are a past watcher and looking for some something different /r/anime has some Watch This! threads that pitches a show to garnish veiwership.

I made 2, one for Aiura, a Slice of Life Comedy Shortisode and one for The Rolling Girls, an action/adventure show that experiments with stunning visuals and comic volume-esque episodes.

I am not ome for Shonen, so I cannot quite recommend anything. Still, One Punch Man is solid, if you want more than just a fighting and superpower show

Attack on Titan is another popular one. It is a mecha show disgused as action/adventure/psychological. Cleverly at that too.

Now, if you are a veteran of anime, I will be bold to pitch Flip Flappers. This show is the closest thing we have to masterpiece due to its visually stunning palatte of color, the layers of metaphor, juxtaposition, and visual simile. It maintains a solid storytelling while being accessible to many with its action. Yes, it is a magical girl show mixed with references to anime pop culture, but has a deeper layer of obscure biopsych concepts. While not without flaws, it is definite worth a watch if you are just as adventurous.
[doublepost=1496179509][/doublepost]For romance, I would recommend One Week Friends

For Drama: Nagi no Asukara, White Album 2,

For Mecha: Gunbusters, Knights of Sidonia, and dare I say it - Aldnoah Zero (forgive me).

For sports: Chiyafuru, Kuroko Basket, Haikyuu

For Slice of life: K-ON!, Aria, Auira, Is the Order a Rabbit?

I also recommend making a profile on My Anime List to keep track of the shows you watch, what you personally rate them, reviews you make, and more. This will help you find other shows matching your preferences and others that may share interest in shows.

Here is my MAL if you want to use it for auggestions, I have not updated it in a while, but it has a solid amount. Remember my ratings are my ratings, you may like something I do not.

By the way Rakugo Showa is amazing and you should watch it and like it.

Aldnoah starts pretty strong with a good premise, albeit predictable and generic. The visuals are on point, the soundtrack is killer (it better be seeing who directed the musical scores), and it has a decent cast...

Buuut then it has Inaho, an emotionally lifeless shell of a character that even the eggs have more personality. His only quality for the show is to be the end-all-be-all of dues ex machina. He serves no other purpose than to be universal plot armor for all of the "good guys". Why is that self-entitled-emotionally-devoid-waste-of-a-character-slot like that? No idea. They never explain it logically, but expects us to suspend disblief that he has the answers to all of the vastly technologically superior alien cousins? Give me a break.

And yet, those asspulls gives us some hype moments and awesome mecha.

But instead of developing and focusing on really interesting characters like Mr. PTSD-Kun or Klein (fuck that guy) we are shown this largely colorless cast of side characters that are all but useless. Partivualrly the military who takes orders from this Inaho despite him being a novice pilot in comparable rust-coffins.

The tone is set perfectly.

Any reason why anyone does anything in this show?

Klein: Hi, inaho, I wanna help you shoot down my kinsmen

Inaho: Ktnx, bye. /me shoots you down for no reason.

Who thought that was a good idea? Not a competent military that would at least capture klein and use him for inofrmatoon that he would willingly give to protect Princess Aslyssmssmsms.

We get good animation.

But then they waste their budget on CGI modling of stationary mecha in the bays. Doning nothing. Why? Couldnt you use that money to focus on sommething other than useless cgi? Of course not. That would be good.

The enemies we interesting.

Yeah, the politics was great. Count Shazam!(tm) was actually one of my favorite characters becuase he was actually intelligence, proper, and yet compassionate. And then he was written off.

But those ending credits! That winter storm with the sound of nothing but sleet was so haunting and beautiful for a tragic end!

But how it ended was fucking retarded and it did not really matrer because of.. season 2.

But at least it isnt No Game No Life.

Yeah, that is true.

All in all, was Aldnoah a good show? No. No it was not. It was hype, it did somethings well, but it constantly fell flat by having significantly larger flaws in the first several episodes tham any reasons to actually redeem it. It directed all of its focus on the wrong aspects when they have the grace of Urobutcher. All they had to do is not fuck it up, to stay consistant which was literally WRITTEN for them. But no. They decided to fuck it up.

So like, I'm not a big anime dude so be gentle, but Black Lagoon is pretty damn bomb. I'm all for greasy pirates with machine guns kidnapping Japanese businessmen.

Koe-no-Katachi-Anime-Visual.jpg

I am surprised no one has mentioned this one yet.

Koe no Katachi (A silent voice) is an anime movie that explores the concept of a deaf girl being subjected to harsh mental and physical abuse in the form of bullying due to her disability.

The plot revolves around two characters (the deaf girl and the male bully) that each struggle to find a middle ground between them due to the latter failing to understand the predicament of being deaf.

As the story unfolds, the hate of the boy is replaced by genuine guilt that haunts him for years after the girl transfers out of the school never to be seen again.

Until one day he randomly meets her and begins his jorney of redemption for the horrible sins he committed.

This movie is a rollercoaster of emotions that will take you on the feels train no doubt.

I definitely recommend it.

PS.: Can post a clip later if you are still unsure.

I am surprised no one has mentioned this one yet.

I think the reason why no one has mentioned it yet is because like Kimi no Na Wa, it has only surfaced out of Japan recently and the high "success" of Kimi no Na Wa has obfuscated the appeal of this movie. The hype and acclaim of Kimi no Na Wa has settled down a bit and so now the anime populous are latching onto another "successful" movie. In the past several weeks Koe no Katachi has been building the same steam as KnNW, already rated highly.

To be honest, I have nothing to really say about this anime. Kyoani knows their niche and their stuff will continue to be popular, if not, over hyped.

Want some good anime?
None.
[doublepost=1496252077][/doublepost]Perhaps Sword art online or Mirai nikki, the only anime I watched that ended up to actually have a good story and a rather serious theme
