i was having an argument with @TheIlgar (not here because faggot russian government block neb) about how living in the soviet union was probably worst than living in nazi germany, which in my opinion it probably was
the specifications as to who you would be(race,religion,social status) was left down to just the standard bloke from either russia/germany

The USSR was also not completely dictatorial, there was an elected committe that could shoot down Stalins proposals if they so wished, this happened repeatedly and was not uncommon, many of Stalins proposed changes were shot down by this committee which was elected by the people.

Even throughout the entirety of the sovietunion they still didn't kill more than Germany. About 2-3 million died in the gulags. And you'll think 6 million as how many Germany killed, no no no. They also killed gays, handicaps, communists, slavs etc.

although i guess you could really count it from 1939-53 if you want, its more or less living through either hitlers reign or stalins reign

but do you not think it would be worse to live in the soviet union rather than nazi germany? the soviet union generally had worse living standards than nazi germany, and you were always under the threat of 'work hard or gulag'

And the work hard or gulag shit only happened during the 5 year plan implementation, the soviets did hold some degree of care over their citizens but during that time for the Soviets it was a case of 'Industrialise or face the threat of invasion from litterely anyone' because the USSR at that period was very very weak.

i think its the fact that the people who lived under a longer reign of communism and subsequently the reigns of people like stalin consider themselves better off now, whereas the countries that saw more light versions of communism prefer communism over capitalism

@Husky im just gonna put it out there as a member of a family that's been heavily repressed in the past by the communist regime - all these graphs that you're pulling about people saying communism > capitalism is caused by fat ass pink nostalgia goggles by those that were a part of the party and surrendered their actual ideals or forced them into hiding simply because they wanted their families to be safe.

also notice how the wealthier a certain country is, the less it is leaning towards the whole 'communism was better back in my day x happened and x is now shit and x reeeeeEEEEEEEEEEE', a pretty fun fact. let's not turn this thread into communism > democracy tho yeah?

i suppose i'd still choose communism over fascism - or rather third reich - cause i'd be forced into heavy labour or exterminated immediately as a slav person boy there whereas i'd still have the option to live, even if not freely under communist rule

i was mooching around youtube after watching an equal amount of soviet union/reich documentaries and ended up finding this:

although im not sure where they get their sources from, i doubt they'd lie about most things, as lets be honest everything mentioned in that video is pretty convincing considering stalins reputation


i wouldnt want to live in either of the two, but if i had to choose it'd probably be germany, probably because germany was a lot more composed in regards to the entire population, taking jews/gays/gypsies/disabled people out of it. everyone in the soviet union was under the threat of stalins regime, not just a select few. since im now a jew or gay or a gypsy or debatably disabled id rather live in the reich as a result
