mfw russel goes on about how things needed to make a club sandwich either don't exist anymore or are far too rare (bakeries, fresh vegetables that aren't just paste, bacon [pigs are extinct?], turkey [extinct too]) and I'm sitting here wondering if citizens just eat cardboard now.

Alyx doesn't use the Vortessence itself; she yanks nodes in the Ark out of the wall that contain it then basically discharges them. The Combine use Vorts to shield the Ark by draining their energy

BIG ENDING SPOILER/LORE STUFF:
  • G-Man was the one being kept in the Vault during Alyx's timeline, but had already experienced HL2/EP1/EP2. The Combine are draining Vorts to keep him contained.
  • Mossman mentions to an Advisor earlier; "We finally have him after all this time? Just move the box" (they clearly know what he is, but Alyx and Eli think its Gordon they're referring to).
  • G-Man wanted Alyx to get to White Forest to witness Eli dying so her past self would be more willing to accept the deal as he mentions wanting a replacement for Gordon (given after Ep 1 he went rogue).
  • She accepts, kills the Future!Advisor and saves her dad, but G-Man locks her in Stasis and 'hires' her.
  • Eli knows whats happened Circa Episode 2, and DOG gives Gordon his crowbar back.
