refer to post #19
Ok then. Don't say you have an argument unless you're willing to bring it\

Edit: I know i said this was more of a discussion but if more people start to agree I'd be happy to throw a discord server together with basic permissions and such and then transfer ownership to @Blackquill or @Roosebud and leave them in charge of it (Or they can just do it themselves). That is of course if this post gets enough support, and their approval.

I would much rather stick with discord but, like mentioned before, it's (still) lacking a few features that we depend on with teamspeak. Some of these things can be remedied by making a bot but I can't be arsed to sink that much time into making one. There's also the issue of at least half the community not wanting to switch away from an archaic voip software for some godforsaken reason

I have an unbelievable amount of problems with the teamspeak client on a daily basis so I want to switch as soon as possible but alas

I'd hit the character limit if I tried to explain why in a single post
so u have no argument really

I'm 90% certain that if you actually said these features I could point you in the way of a bot that uses them

The main things are related to ux - channel categories and the like. We also need moderation logs which I know some bots provide, but it would be pointless if discord is going to roll out their own official implementation anyway

I don't honestly believe that some people have actual difficulty locating their channel without the categories, hell we have search bar now for things like this.

The GUI discord uses is about 200x better than teamspeak

I 100% agree with you; it was the same argument I used, even. However, the teamspeak crowd is a tough one to convince. We ended up using teamspeak in the end because people were starting up their own ts3 servers and fragmenting the community

In all honesty, the ts servers would never take off and would just end up dying over time as people realize that its not worth the overall effort.

Honestly I could make a bot to suit our needs, just give me time to learn the API

Edit: Just to clarify: I know Lua well it's the module for the bot API that I don't know

the push to talk function for discord sucked ass, it was ramshackle as fuck because you had to set up some weird mic unmute mute shit clientside
credit to them, they fixed it now but i still personally prefer ts3 over it

for example
  • when i hit x on the fucker it actually closes (going to the system tray isnt closing and fuck jumpscares when someone coughs)
  • no poking (mentions and pms dont count its too quiet, no "hey wake up")
  • circlejerks are fucking impenetrable where you can just ask on ts3
  • no channel based text chat, i dont want to tell the entire server my shit memes, just a few people in the channel
  • the pepper discord alt fiasco is prone to happen again
  • i just prefer ts3s compact gui, something about discord just seems overly spaced out and... off? i guess? to me
  • allllllll the other ts3 communities i have easy access to, would be going out of my way to join discord
  • no country flag (fast way to find an impersonator etc if you dont have them added)
  • the whole thing that shows what game im on (yes it can be turned off probably fuck going through the massive options menu, 13 tabs holy shit)
  • lets be real here people will probably set up their own ts3s or migrate to existing ones (i tried last time but discord was empty half the time or people circlejerked in tag locked channels)

on the plus side
  • I think I remember better sound quality
  • global text chat for all
  • pasting pictures and videos directly into chat
  • meme bots
  • emojis work
  • can use it fucking anywhere (phone etc)
  • low maintenance
  • F R E E

1. There is an option to set push to talk, infact there is an option to make it mandatory on the server.
2. pms make a noise and as do mentions
3. What
4. Then congratulations, you can set up a !!PRIVATE TEXT CHANNEL!! with specific members only :O
5. Or better yet we can ban the alts without saying a word.
6. I can't change this opinion.
7. This literally never happens.
8. Didn't realize some people found opening options and scrolling down to games was hard, god help you should you ever play an RPG.
9. They'd crumble and fall apart as the majority of players would rather use the official rather than a fake.

Discord has proper ptt now, although it might be finicky(???) not sure because I just use voice activation anyway

Mentions are pokes I don't understand this, is changing the sound to something else what you want?

Circlejerks still happen on teamspeak there's really no difference

Chat channels tied to voice channels is a good point, but it can be remedied by making a bot if we do end up switching over

If anything it's harder to create alts and spam on discord because you require an account with a unique email, and discord has built in "my server is going to shit please help" options - whereas with teamspeak, you just need to generate a new unique id (and change vpn ip's if that's your fancy) to return to the server

UI is really just personal preference

I'm surprised that you aren't using discord for a fair amount of communities given how popular it is, but I can understand this

Country flags are just fluff that teamspeak has, verifying members doesn't really make sense since discord uses a persistent account-based system rather than unique id's so you'll know if it's someone else

Game status is very easily disabled, the options menu is no more daunting than teamspeak's options menu

The only reason people would migrate to their own teamspeak servers is because of this lack of will to change. The discord server would be half-empty because of people not wanting to switch over in the first place, so that can't really be a valid concern if it's a problem that the dissenting group is actively making for themselves
