because anzac's 6 RAR was one of their first units in vietnam and was mainly for observations and reports they were given american military stock like the south vietnamese getting old m1 garands from american stocks

I knew some recon units got M16's but I thought they were just for specialised roles, I thought most Ausies used the SLR, M14 or F1/Owen gun.

Still kinda weird how they were given American weapons over Australian ones, They did get a lot of American and British Surplus but even then.
