Depends how they made it to captain. If they came in from officer's school, then sure. But if they rose the ranks over time, nah they've seen some shit.

During wartime, it's going to be very difficult for an NCO to be promoted for a CO. You'd have to be taken off the warfront to go to an officer training school. They don't simply throw you a 2LT badge for being a good boy.

NCOs and COs have entirely different roles, and IMO, COs shouldn't be out in the field of battle, leading the charge. That's the NCOs job.

1. Generally, sergeants have seen more 'shit' than Captain's because most COS are students first, soldiers second.

2. I agree that they should be realistic and somewhat normal people with their own unique quirks and personalities, however, they are in charge for a reason and if they act irrational, immature or unprofessional; they'll be dealt with accordingly back faction leadership I'd assume.

3. If by edgy you mean one that cuts thems elves to relieve the pain/stress of suffering g through the war, I disagree. But if you mean stereotypical Russian chars who yell soviet Era statements while you charge, I agree because that ruins immersion and it's a bit unserious in a modern military setting.

I'm pretty sure that if a soldier displayed out-of-the-ordinary exemplary qualities to that of a junior commissioned officer, a battlefield promotion (though uncommon) would be warranted.

That's how it was done in WW2 anyhow, no idea how modern times take it.

Yet I recall having to give you a medal just to stop the not-so-subtle hints at wanting to get promoted whenever there was some sort of event or stuff going on. Or were the hentai stuff and children chairs in your engineering bay supposed to indicate some kind of insanity to justify going from SNCO to CO?
