When you used to play HL1 mods for years because you didn't have a great PC but these days you're ready for the future

I still don't know gamers, 500 pound investment for 15 hours of gameplay has me unconvinced. Unless a bunch of other titles start getting dropped very soon after I'm on the fence with this one. Can someone with a VR throw a bunch of other VR titles at me and tell me why it's worth it.

Boneworks releases in December and it’s an Amazing physics based game with combat. Superhot in VR is a trip. Beatsaber can keep you hook for months.
Elite Dangerous in VR is stellar(pun intended)
Gorn will give you daily dose of gore and make you feel like the king of the arena.
Office Cuts is an amazing “stealth” vr game with a cute story and amazing gameplay.

there’s plenty more and I bet more to come

It’s not.

Valve just looks like they’re asking for a commercial flop cause I can’t imagine there’d be as many sales without their main fan base?

VR isn’t as much of a desire as a PC is man.

it looks, on the whole, a good game. however my worry of the franchise being 'spoiled' by modernisation is beginning to manifest

the beauty of half life is its simplicity, and releasing a VR game seems to be more pandering to an audience for profit rather than putting some soul into continuing the legacy of a game collectively regarded as one of the best of all time

one of the things i am pleased about is the retaining of old models and map design with the graphics simply being given an enormous boost. the housing, computers and background props still give a callback to half life 2

I think given Valve specifically invited veteran writers back in to completely overhaul the plot because it didn't feel true to the series and themes fans had come to expect, I think they're more than invested in putting soul into this.

I mean sure, they're clearly updating everything (I mean, how could they not?) but this feels nothing like a shameless cash-grab in that regard imo.

You have to remember, HL1 was groundbreaking for its time. HL2 was groundbreaking for its time. I don't think there has ever really been a true "simplistic" half life game, we just look at it from the perspective of not being in 2004 anymore.

Boneworks makes me want to nut.
HL:A
2 Other Valve VR Titles
Blade and Sorcery to brutally do gladiator combat and chop off limbs
Pavlov VR (which is literally 5 dollars) to play CSGO in VR, TTT in VR, L4D2 in VR, or COD Nazi Zombies in VR.
Beat Saber - To swing swords around for several hours until your arms hurt. (I didn't think it'd be that fun BUT HOLY SHIT)
Superhot VR - To be in the matrix
Budget Cuts - Super fun game with portals and a good story

and rapid fire:
Skyrim VR
Fallout 4 VR
Elite Dangerous
Resident Evil 7
Doom VR
Trover / Rick and Morty VR

It's so worth it. You will never have an experience like VR with a 2d experience. You will never understand the absolute fear of a grenade bouncing into a room in Pavlov VR as you scramble to pick it up and yeet it far away. You won't understand what Boneworks will be like, when you just run at someone and actually use your hand to brutally bash their head into a wall. You won't be able to pry a headcrab from your face and stomp it or fucking yeet it a metrocop.

It's worth it.

the early combine soldiers look a bit goofy ngl

the unarmoured ones I mean, they're legit just wearing hazmat suits (if they even are combine soldiers that is)

Just saying that HL:A isn’t worth it for those 15 hours is dumb imo. Mods and workshop support is going to give it lots of replay value.

can't wait until all resources (materials, textures and models) are completely imported into all HL2RP servers hehe

I figure they are, but this is really before any sort of Resistance movement at all. You also see some (much more) armoured ones further into the trailer, so.

And they've found it before alyx and Gordon do and send it back in time with information about Eli Vance hence why he's captured in this game to prevent alyx and Gordon from seperating the combines teleportation and communication to their homeworld from even happening in ep 2

12 years of waiting really does shit to your brain
