the fuck is a burrow

the little green/blue square at the bottom of the UI

its basically an allocated area where you can assign specific dwarves to live
they'll stay there indefinitely, leaving only to pick up shit from outside and haul it in if that object is required for a workshop within the burrow

if you make a burrow and have a stockpile of food and drink within the burrow, the squad can stay there indefinitely

or you can just make a front door and lock it when an enemy approaches so you have time to rally your squad by the front door and sally out

so in the options you can set the ingame FPS cap, which straight-up speeds up the game

i raised it from 100 (a day lasting 30 seconds) to 1000
a day lasts 3 seconds

my fortress just went from 200 people to 0 in half a second and i don't know what killed them

Aight I watched a bunch of tutorials and now I have a rough understanding of what I gotta do, however for some reason my game has tanked to 10fps and so everything is taking forever to do anything and I'm not sure why

also how do I get my ui to show fish and plants on the top bar, not just meat?

currently tryna make a 2 elevation deep moat cause I want a lil island fortress with rivers around it, wish my miner dwarf good luck with not drowning when I crack into the neighboring river
