hope so, after spending years hearing "ATTENTION PLEASE: ALL CITIZENS IN LOCAL BLAH BLAH BLAH" it'll feel really tired if they just reuse old stuff
doubt it's much of a big deal for most normal hl2 fans though as most of the overwatch announcements are only used like, once or twice in actual hl2 and it's easy nostalgia points

hl2rp has warped us bro

another interesting thing is that despite seeing civil protection as we know them in merch (pins) and promo art, we actually don't have any footage of them in game what so ever

plus we see Civil Protection APCs standing right where the OTA are shown in the trailer
and we hear CP biosignal sounds upon killing OTA

could it be that these early oats -are- the Civil Protection?

or that the combine haven't dabbled in human modification yet and don't have a distinct separation between their police force and military yet and just use unmodified humans everywhere?

perhaps what we assumed to be early combine soldiers are actually civil protection officers?
i think in gameplay 3 when they kill the combine alien grunt seen im promo arts he also has a biosignal loss so i think its still ota or just oversight from valve

imagine the size of the maps you can create in source2


The actual citadel model is not as big as the one you see in game, it's just in the skybox

The way a skybox works is that everything around the sky_camera entity will be seen around the level, but much bigger
For example, this is the skybox I have on my edit, you can see a smaller version of the citadel, some buildings and that zombie I just spawned

The engine will most likely be better optimized, so hopefully we'll still be able to have bigger maps though

I know a few folk said City 17 could be Sofia, but considering we see Gordon messing around in the coast line in HL2, what if it's actually Varna instead?

It's still Bulgaria, and it's right on the coast of the Black Sea.

it's anywhere but not kiev. speculated to be bulgaria, romania, baltic states. either way it's confirmed to be bulgaria because of the art director and valve basically making it super obvious in alyx as compared to it being ambiguous in hl2

city 17 probably isn't meant to be equivalent to any irl city whatsoever, if they ever give it a pre-war name i imagine it'll be someplace fictional. seems like it's probably in bulgaria though, pretty big that valve is even giving us that much knowing how vague they usually are
